Dr Athanasios Diamantopoulos is a Fertility and Gynaecology Consultant. He graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2002 and completed his full training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK. He has spent over 15 years caring for women in maternity hospitals in the UK and helping couples in their journey to parenthood.
Having worked in tertiary NHS units, including King’s College University Hospital, Royal Sussex County University Hospital, St Helier University Hospital and Homerton University Hospital, he attained the Certificate of Completion of Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (CCT) from the London Deanery in 2015.
Dr Diamantopoulos worked as a Clinical Fellow in the Fertility Unit of Homerton University Hospital for two years, where he received training in all aspects of assisted conception (IVF), reproductive medicine and surgery.
In 2015 he joined as a Fertility Consultant the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre (ARGC), the world’s leading IVF clinic, which has achieved the UK’s highest success rates every single year since 1995.
In 2018 he moved back to Greece offering his services to Greek and International patients, collaborating with IVF clinics in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Dr Diamantopoulos has been certified by the British Fertility Society in the Quality Management of a Fertility Service, the Assisted Conception, the Management of the Infertile Couple, the Male Fertility, the Pelvic Ultrasound and the Embryo Transfer and Intrauterine Insemination techniques.
He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) since 2011 and has been a member of many other learned societies including the British Fertility Society (BFS), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
Dr Diamantopoulos has a particular interest in investigating and treating women with immunological disorders associated with the recurrent implantation failure of embryos and the recurrent miscarriage.
He has also vast experience in performing hysteroscopies and laparoscopies. He has been trained for over 8 years in advanced hysterocopic and laparoscopic surgery in University Hospitals of London and Brighton. Over this period he performed numerous hysteroscopic and laparoscopic procedures to help women improve their fertility outcomes. Moreover, he has attended an intense 2-year training program in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy, conjointly offered by the University of Surrey and the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy.
His philosophy has always been to tailor medical treatment to the individual needs of women and couples with a caring, thorough and professional approach.
When time allows he spends his free time chasing after his 9 and 7-year old girls, entertaining his 3–year old boy and obsessively following Panathinaikos FC!
