ENDOMETRIAL RECEPTIVITY TESTING (ERA)

ENDOMETRIAL RECEPTIVITY TEST (ERA)
What is the window of implantation?

The endometrium, which is the lining layer of the uterus, is receptive and ready to accommodate an embryo only during a specific period of time. This timeframe of receptivity is known as the window of implantation. This “window” varies in timing and duration among women and each woman has her own unique window.

Embryo transfer in an IVF treatment is routinely performed following administration of progesterone supplements for a standard number of days post egg collection. However to achieve a successful outcome the embryo(s) must be transferred during this “window of implantation”, neither too early nor too late. For most women, the timing of the implantation window is the same, but for some women, it can be different and this could explain why some women undergoing IVF do not get pregnant, even with transfer of good quality embryos.

What is the ERA test?

The ERA test is a pioneering test that evaluates the endometrial receptivity and gives the opportunity to perform the embryo transfer in a personalized way by defining the optimal time for embryo transfer that is specific for each woman.

The ERA test aims to prevent implantation failure by establishing the ideal day for embryo transfer, thus increasing the chances of a successful outcome.

What the test involves?

It is a simple test that requires only a small endometrial sample, which is obtained with a pipelle. The sample is placed into a collection kit and is sent to the laboratory for analysis. The sample is assessed using the most up to date methods of next generation sequencing to evaluate the expression of 236 genes related to implantation and the results are available within 2-3 weeks.

The test needs to be done on a particular day of your cycle and you may be advised to take the certain medication in preparation for the test.

Who could benefit from the test?

Studies have shown that ERA test helps patients who have experienced implantation failure despite using good quality embryos.

ERA test may be particularly beneficial if you have experienced recurrent implantation failures, including recurrent miscarriages or repeated unsuccessful IVF treatments including the transfer of embryos, which through genetic testing were found to be normal.
