ADVANCED MALE FERTILITY TESTING<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

In approximately half of the couples suffering from infertility, male-factor infertility is\u00a0either\u00a0the main or one of the contributing factors to their problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite that, thorough assessment of men is frequently neglected as opposed to the numerous tests and investigations the female partners undergo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At Fertility Advanced we believe that proper\u00a0evaluation\u00a0of male factor infertility\u00a0is of paramount importance and whenever necessary we adopt a multidisciplinary approach, involving our collaborating Consultant Urologists or\/and our embryologists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In over half of men, the cause of fertility\u00a0issues\u00a0is unknown.\u00a0Chronic infections, serious illnesses, local injuries\u00a0to the genital area\u00a0and lifestyle\u00a0attitudes,\u00a0have\u00a0all\u00a0been linked to\u00a0male infertility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from semen analysis, which is essential to be done by all men as a first line investigation for infertility, we offer various advanced male fertility tests in collaboration with the top andrology laboratories in Greece. These tests include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion active_section=”0″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Semen Analysis (SA)” tab_id=”1591177590909-e4d1d084-c7df”][vc_column_text]Semen analysis<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is a simple\u00a0test and is essential to be done by all men as a first line investigation for infertility.\u00a0If a previous test has been done and it is over a year ago, the test needs to be repeated.\u00a0A 2-3 days period of sexual\u00a0abstinence\u00a0is required before the test.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Semen analysis examines the following\u00a0sperm parameters:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Semen volume, which is the amount of semen fluid.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Sperm concentration, which is the amount of sperm contained within the semen fluid.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Sperm motility, which provides information on how the sperm is moving\u00a0and evaluates the percentage of spermatozoa that are moving vigorously.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Sperm morphology, which provides information on the shape and the\u00a0size\u00a0of spermatozoa and evaluates the percentage of spermatozoa that look normal.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The presence of any white or red blood cells within the sample, which could indicate an infection.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Sperm DNA fragmentation test (DFI)” tab_id=”1591177590934-2f5493bd-d8de”][vc_column_text]A DNA\u00a0sperm\u00a0fragmentation test<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0performed on a semen sample\u00a0to assess the level of DNA damage in\u00a0your\u00a0sperm.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    This test gives important information\u00a0about\u00a0the\u202fintegrity\u00a0of\u00a0the DNA in\u00a0your sperm\u00a0and represents an evaluation tool for the assessment of your sperm\u2019s quality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Various studies have shown that increased\u00a0levels of\u00a0sperm DNA damage\u00a0are associated\u00a0with unexplained infertility, unsuccessful IUI or IVF treatments and\u00a0recurrent miscarriages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    If the DNA damage in your sperm is increased we will give you specific advice in order to improve the degree of the damage. However, if the\u00a0fragmentation levels are\u00a0too\u00a0high\u00a0we will\u00a0refer you for a urological opinion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    For couples proceeding with an IVF treatment, when the sperm DNA\u00a0fragmentation level is\u00a0high,\u00a0ICSI\u00a0should be used instead of\u00a0IVF\u00a0for the\u00a0fertilisation of the eggs,\u00a0even\u00a0if\u00a0the sperm\u2019s parameters are all normal.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Sperm Aneuploidy Test (SAT)” tab_id=”1591178014972-d94135b9-6fba”][vc_column_text]SAT<\/strong> is a diagnostic test that analyses the sperm with a\u00a0Technique called FISH\u00a0to identify\u00a0the percentage of spermatozoa with\u00a0chromosomal abnormalities. It\u00a0evaluates in\u00a0particular,\u00a0the\u00a0chromosomal abnormalities,\u00a0which are\u00a0mostly implicated in spontaneous miscarriages\u00a0or\u00a0male infertility\u00a0(chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X and Y).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The results of the test are available within 2 weeks and can prove a useful tool for the management of couples who have suffered recurrent miscarriages, unsuccessful IVF treatments or a previous pregnancy with chromosomal abnormality.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Advanced Infection screen test” tab_id=”1591178089094-8fc9a207-38ab”][vc_column_text]The presence of bacteria, such as chlamydia,\u00a0or other pathogenic microorganisms\u00a0in the sperm may remain undetected, as it is often asymptomatic.\u00a0When\u00a0these pathogens are\u00a0present in the sperm\u00a0can compromise sperm quality, leading to infertility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Sometimes\u00a0these pathogenic microorganisms may be located inside the\u00a0spermatozoa\u00a0(intracellular)\u00a0and subsequently\u00a0transferred\u00a0inside\u00a0the\u00a0embryo, leading to\u00a0a\u00a0miscarriage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    We\u00a0offer\u00a0a new\u00a0sensitive\u00a0test,\u00a0which\u00a0unlike conventional methods\u00a0can\u00a0additionally\u00a0detect\u00a0intracellular\u00a0pathogens inside spermatozoa,\u00a0using\u00a0immunofluorescence and flow\u00a0cytometry\u00a0technique.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    This\u00a0test allows\u00a0for the prompt\u00a0diagnosis and treatment of sperm infections with\u00a0the use of\u00a0targeted antibiotics\/antivirals. \u202f\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Anti-sperm antibodies (MAR)” tab_id=”1591178138045-4cfd68ec-fd1e”][vc_column_text]MAR test is used to identify an immunological cause of infertility by looking for anti-sperm antibodies in the semen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    These antibodies when present may reduce the ability of the sperm to penetrate the egg, preventing fertilization and causing infertility.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Oxidative stress test” tab_id=”1591178199905-415091c4-3878″][vc_column_text]Excessive production of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>reactive oxygen species<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in the sperm\u00a0<\/span><\/span>results in o<\/span><\/span>xidative stress, as the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>available antioxidants<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in the sperm cannot efficiently\u00a0<\/span><\/span>neutralise the excessive\u00a0<\/span><\/span>amount of the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>reactive oxygen species<\/span><\/span>. O<\/span><\/span>xidative stress<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>damage<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0sperm<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and existing\u00a0<\/span><\/span>evidence suggest<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that is one of the major causes of male infertility,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>especially<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in ca<\/span><\/span>ses of unexplained infertility or when\u00a0<\/span><\/span>abnormal semen parameters<\/span><\/span>\u00a0are found.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][\/vc_tta_accordion][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
