{"id":2271,"date":"2021-05-11T11:33:28","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T08:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fertilityadvanced.gr\/?page_id=2271"},"modified":"2021-05-11T11:33:29","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T08:33:29","slug":"oothikiki-anazoogonisi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fertilityadvanced.gr\/el\/oothikiki-anazoogonisi\/","title":{"rendered":"\u03a9\u039f\u0398\u0397\u039a\u0399\u039a\u0397 \u0391\u039d\u0391\u0396\u03a9\u039f\u0393\u039f\u039d\u0397\u03a3\u0397"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\"><strong>REJUVENATION TREATMENTS (PRP)<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)<\/b>\u202fis blood plasma\u00a0that has been enriched with platelets prepared from fresh whole blood using a centrifuge process.\u00a0It is\u00a0derived from\u00a0the patient\u2019s own blood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">PRP contains growth factors and many other components, including proteins with antibacterial and\u00a0anti-inflammatory properties\u00a0as well as coagulation factors, which promote tissue healing,\u00a0improve blood supply\u00a0and\u00a0eventually\u00a0play\u00a0a fundamental role in the tissue regeneration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although PRP has been applied for many years in various areas of medicine including Cosmetics, Cardiac surgery and Orthopaedics, it is\u00a0relatively new to the field of Fertility.\u00a0The injection of PRP in damaged or atrophic tissues is considered to promote tissue healing and regeneration of the cells, hence the potential use in Fertility and IVF.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In women with fertility issues\u00a0PRP is used\u00a0to thicken the resistant endometrium and revitalise the non-functioning ovaries in an attempt to\u00a0restore some ovarian function\u00a0and boost\u00a0the egg production.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although the clinical evidence is in preliminary stages and the ovarian PRP application is still a very new practice, existing\u00a0data suggest\u00a0incredible outcomes in patients even in menopausal stages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The contribution of PRP treatment in the reestablishment of the menstrual periods and the regeneration of the follicles, either through the development of the existing follicles, or through the generation of new follicles derived from the inactive ovarian tissue, remains a controversial topic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since PRP is an innovative technique, more research is needed to establish whether it could be advised as a reliable method for infertility management in women with low ovarian reserve and advanced age.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion active_section=&#8221;0&#8243; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Who could potentially benefit from PRP?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1610973762397-e1388f6b-409d&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PRP could be proven beneficial in the following group of patients:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a last\u00a0resort\u00a0treatment\u00a0for\u00a0women with\u00a0repeated\u00a0implantation and IVF failures\u00a0not keen to go down the egg donation route.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women with low ovarian reserve (usually diminished AMH values)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) or\u00a0early\u00a0peri-menopause.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women with chronic\u00a0inflammation of the uterine lining.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women who cannot obtain a desired level of endometrial thickness for a successful embryo transfer<b>.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What are the possible risks with PRP?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1610973762422-1ef2d5ae-1ae8&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">PRP has been deemed very safe since it\u00a0involves the\u00a0use of\u00a0the patient\u2019s own blood to infuse the ovaries and is a minimally invasive procedure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As with all surgical procedures, there are potential risks associated with the ovarian PRP injection. These include:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mild to moderate discomfort.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bleeding during or after the PRP injection, either from the ovary or from the needle puncture site at the top of the vagina. The bleeding is usually minimal and very rarely causes a problem. The need for blood transfusion is rare, in the region of 1 in 500.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Infection is also a rare complication and can be treated with antibiotics. The risk is in the region of 1 in 300.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Injuries to internal organs such as bowel, bladder or blood vessels during the procedure. This is an extremely rare complication, in the region of around 1 in 1000.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Types of PRP&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1610973826536-60e42063-e9c0&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">Ovarian PRP<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>PRP injection in the ovaries aims to activate the growth and the proliferation of the cells in the ovaries. In an attempt to revitalize the egg production from the ovaries,\u00a0each ovary is injected with a few\u00a0mls\u00a0of PRP. It is a procedure similar to the egg collection but in reverse\u00a0and the only difference between the two procedures is that instead of aspirate,\u00a0the ovaries are\u00a0infused.\u00a0The precise number of eggs expected to be produced following the PRP treatment cannot be specified, since this depends on the condition of the ovary before the treatment and the response\u00a0of each individual\u00a0to the treatment.<\/p>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">Endometrial PRP<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>This can be offered as an alternative therapeutic approach in women suffering from chronic\u00a0endometritis,\u00a0recurrent implantation and IVF failures as well as in women who cannot obtain a desired level of endometrial thickness for a successful embryo transfer. The procedure is similar to an\u00a0IUI\u00a0and involves the infusion of PRP into the uterine cavity.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Investigations prior to PRP&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1610973889063-a745ff78-b0ee&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The following blood tests are essential prior to your PRP treatment:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>A Full Blood Count (FBC) and CRP done within a week preceding your PRP scheduled date.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>FSH, AMH and E2 (Estradiol) done within 3 months preceding your PRP scheduled date.\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>A full virology screening including testing for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis (VDRL)\u00a0<\/b><b>done within\u00a0<\/b><b>6<\/b><b>\u00a0months preceding your PRP scheduled date.\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Procedure Information&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1610973953471-13b3d9f8-f71f&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\"><strong>Prior to\u00a0PRP\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the day of\u00a0the\u00a0PRP\u00a0you need to\u00a0present at the clinic with a copy of your passport as well as a copy of the results of the required\u00a0blood tests.\u00a0You should be\u00a0fasting\u00a0from\u00a0midnight\u00a0the night before\u00a0your procedure.\u00a0Upon your arrival to the clinic you will need to give a blood sample. This\u00a0blood\u00a0will\u00a0then\u00a0be\u00a0harvested with the aid of a kit to separate the plasma\u00a0from the\u00a0blood and further enrich it with\u00a0platelets and\u00a0growth factors. This\u00a0process could last for\u00a0up to 1 hour.\u00a0Following\u00a0that\u00a0a nurse will accompany you to your room, in order for the final preparations of your PRP procedure to take place.\u00a0That would involve signing the\u00a0relevant consent forms and having\u00a0a cardiology and\u00a0anaesthetic\u00a0review.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">The PRP Procedure\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The procedure is done under light sedation in theatre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ovarian PRP: A fine needle is inserted under ultrasound guidance through your vagina to reach your ovaries. Through this needle a few mls of PRP are injected into your ovaries. The procedure lasts for approximately 10 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Endometrial PRP: It involves the insertion of a speculum into the vagina in the same way as having a cervical smear test. A thin, soft catheter (tube) is then passed through the cervix into the womb. The PRP is then injected via the catheter into the womb.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">Post-PRP\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following your PRP procedure you will return to your room to rest for approximately 2 hours. Since this is a minimally invasive procedure, you will be advised to take orally painkillers (paracetamol) for the next 24-48 hours as well as antibiotics for a week.\u00a0The recommended time of staying in Greece is two days.
