{"id":2262,"date":"2021-05-11T11:26:55","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T08:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fertilityadvanced.gr\/?page_id=2262"},"modified":"2021-05-11T11:26:56","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T08:26:56","slug":"katapsyxi-oarion","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fertilityadvanced.gr\/el\/katapsyxi-oarion\/","title":{"rendered":"\u039a\u0391\u03a4\u0391\u03a8\u03a5\u039e\u0397 \u03a9\u0391\u03a1\u0399\u03a9\u039d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">EGG FREEZING<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Over the last 30 years the average age of women becoming mothers for first time has consistently increased and this trend is expected to continue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For the first time\u00a0in history women in their 30s are more likely\u00a0to have kids than women in their 20s.\u00a0This coincides with\u00a0the larger demographic trend\u00a0of women\u00a0delaying childbirth\u00a0to focus on their career progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These\u00a0changes, despite\u00a0reflecting\u00a0a socially driven\u00a0lifestyle\u00a0can\u00a0adversely affect\u00a0the\u00a0reproductive\u00a0potential\u00a0in women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It has been\u00a0well\u00a0established\u00a0that\u00a0maternal\u00a0age\u00a0is a key-factor\u00a0in\u00a0fertility.\u00a0Women are most fertile\u00a0in\u00a0their\u00a020s. Thereafter,\u00a0their fertility reduces gradually,\u00a0particularly\u00a0after\u00a0the age of\u00a035\u00a0and dramatically after the age of 40. This decline is\u00a0attributed\u00a0to the reduction in\u00a0both\u00a0the\u00a0quality\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0number\u00a0of\u00a0the remaining\u00a0eggs\u00a0to the ovaries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Recent\u00a0development of advanced techniques in Assisted Reproduction enables\u00a0us\u00a0<b>to \u201cfreeze time\u201d<\/b><b>.\u00a0<\/b>Egg freezing refers to a method of storing a woman\u2019s\u00a0eggs\u00a0for future use\u00a0if\u00a0required.<b>\u00a0<\/b>This treatment option does not require a sperm\u00a0since no\u00a0fertilisation\u00a0takes place.<b>\u00a0<\/b>The main\u00a0advantage\u00a0of\u00a0egg freezing is that it maintains\u00a0the quality of a woman\u2019s eggs at the age they were frozen.\u00a0Based on scientific evidence\u00a0freezing does not\u00a0affect\u00a0egg\u00a0quality.\u00a0These eggs can be used\u00a0in the future\u00a0offering\u00a0a better chance of a successful pregnancy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nowadays\u00a0egg freezing for social reasons has become\u00a0very popular.\u00a0Tech companies like Apple, Facebook, and Google are offering employees\u00a0free egg freezing.\u00a0This\u00a0policy is\u00a0supposed\u00a0to\u00a0provide\u00a0employees\u00a0a\u00a0freedom of\u00a0choice\u00a0to pursue family\u00a0planning\u00a0consistent\u00a0with\u00a0their own timeline.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is\u00a0vital\u00a0to acknowledge that although\u00a0from a social perspective,\u00a0egg\u00a0freezing may\u00a0provide\u00a0women\u00a0the peace of mind of a\u00a0possible\u00a0\u201cfertility insurance policy\u201d there is\u00a0no\u00a0guarantee\u00a0of achieving a pregnancy in the future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion active_section=&#8221;0&#8243; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Who would benefit from egg freezing?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182107428-a7909520-24cb&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Egg freezing<\/strong> was initially\u00a0developed\u00a0to help women undergoing cancer treatment that\u00a0could\u00a0potentially\u00a0impair their fertility. However\u00a0in recent years increased demand has been observed among\u00a0healthy women\u00a0to preserve\u00a0their fertility for social reasons.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Egg freezing\u00a0<\/strong>can be beneficial for women wishing\u00a0to preserve their fertility for the future\u00a0and\u00a0can be considered for a variety of reasons:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\u2022\" data-font=\"Cambria, Cambria_MSFontService, serif\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women with cancer\u00a0about to begin\u00a0chemotherapy\u00a0or pelvic\u00a0radiotherapy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\u2022\" data-font=\"Cambria, Cambria_MSFontService, serif\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women with\u00a0a\u00a0family history of premature menopause.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\u2022\" data-font=\"Cambria, Cambria_MSFontService, serif\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women at risk of premature ovarian\u00a0insufficiency\u00a0due to the presence of certain\u00a0chromosomal abnormalities such as Turner syndrome or fragile X syndrome.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\u2022\" data-font=\"Cambria, Cambria_MSFontService, serif\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Women who wish to postpone having a child for professional, social or purely personal reasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\u2022\" data-font=\"Cambria, Cambria_MSFontService, serif\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Couples\u00a0with ethical objections to freeze and store\u00a0embryos.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What is the ideal age to freeze your eggs?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182107452-a13802c4-20c4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The main benefit of\u00a0egg\u00a0freezing is that it\u00a0preserves\u00a0the quality of a woman\u2019s eggs at the age they were frozen.\u00a0Clearly, the younger you are, the\u00a0quality and quantity\u00a0of your eggs\u00a0are\u00a0higher and therefore,\u00a0if you need to use them in the future the chance of success would be higher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Despite the decline in both egg quality and quantity with age, there are\u00a0drawbacks\u00a0to both freezing too early\u00a0or\u00a0too late.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is reasonable to assume that if you freeze your eggs at a very young age it is\u00a0less likely you will ever need to use them in the future,\u00a0as the\u00a0possibility of a natural pregnancy would be higher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In contrast, waiting to your late 30s or early 40s would allow you more time to start a family naturally, however\u00a0the expected success rate of egg\u00a0freezing\u00a0at this point will be much lower.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If\u00a0you are\u00a0single and\u00a0you are\u00a0not planning to imminently start a family\u00a0the ideal time to freeze your eggs is\u00a0in your\u00a0late 20s to\u00a0mid 30s.\u00a0However\u00a0older women could\u00a0also\u00a0benefit from egg freezing\u00a0depending\u00a0on their\u00a0social circumstances\u00a0and\u00a0their hormonal profile.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So in summary,\u00a0although we appreciate that it is\u00a0a difficult balance between any social benefit and the physical, emotional and financial burden of treatment, you should consider that\u00a0the longer you wait\u00a0the\u00a0lower\u00a0the\u00a0chance of having a successful\u00a0outcome would be.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;STEP-BY-STEP THE EGG FREEZING PROCESS&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182267711-538ef7ac-a05c&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0egg freezing process\u00a0involves\u00a0the <strong>following\u00a0steps:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\"><strong>STEP\u00a01-\u00a0Ovarian\u00a0stimulation<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stimulation of the ovaries with hormones known as gonadotrophins is usually required for a period between 10 to14 days. The hormones are in the form of self-administered subcutaneous injections and need to be taken daily. The aim is to stimulate the ovaries produce multiple follicles simultaneously. Your response to the hormones is monitored very closely with daily hormonal blood tests and ultrasound scans on alternate days, to pick up the slightest changes, which will impact on the choice of medications and timings of treatment. Medications may be altered and dosages may be changed if required. This level of monitoring may be inconvenient in the short term, but we believe it is vital and can make the difference in the quality of the eggs you produce. This approach in treatment is strictly individualized and it is this attention to detail and dedication that contributes to excellence in results.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the follicles\u00a0in the ovaries reach the appropriate size we plan your\u00a0egg collection.\u00a0A trigger injection\u00a0is given\u00a0approximately\u00a036\u00a0hours before the egg collection.\u00a0The exact timing of the\u00a0trigger\u00a0injection and the egg\u00a0collection\u00a0is essential\u00a0for the optimal outcome with regards to the egg quality and quantity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><strong><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\">STEP 2-\u00a0Egg collection\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the day of the egg collection you need to present at the clinic in the morning, having had nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before your procedure. Nail polish, make-up, jewellery and contact lenses should be removed prior to coming in. Prior to moving to the operating theatre you will be reviewed by the cardiology and the anaesthetic team and you will be asked to sign the relevant consent forms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg collection is a day case procedure, which usually lasts for approximately 20 minutes and is\u00a0performed\u00a0under light sedation.<b>\u00a0<\/b>With the use of a fine needle\u00a0under ultrasound guidance, the\u00a0fluid in the follicles in each ovary is aspirated and the\u00a0eggs are\u00a0obtained.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following the procedure\u00a0you will be given antibiotics and painkillers\u00a0and\u00a0you will\u00a0be taken to a recovery room\u00a0to rest,\u00a0for approximately 2-3\u00a0hours.\u00a0Once you are fully awake and able to eat, drink and pass urine, you\u00a0will be able to\u00a0leave\u00a0the clinic. You are strongly advised\u00a0to arrange for someone to drive you home\u00a0and\u00a0avoid driving for 24 hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\"><strong>STEP 3-\u00a0Egg freezing\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following collection the cells around the eggs are stripped away to identify which eggs are mature. These mature eggs are then\u00a0stored\u00a0in\u00a0liquid nitrogen\u00a0containers\u00a0(-196oC), using the\u00a0vitrifcation\u00a0technique, which is the best available method of freezing.\u00a0Vitrification\u00a0allows for ultra-fast\u00a0freezing of the eggs with\u00a0exceptional\u00a0egg survival rates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #6b4f7e;\"><strong>\u00a0STEP 4-\u00a0Future use\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the woman desires, these eggs are thawed and fertilised with the sperm using micromanipulation techniques (ICSI).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ICSI\u00a0(injecting the sperm into the egg) rather than IVF (mixing the sperm and the egg)\u00a0is\u00a0required\u00a0to assist the sperm penetrate the egg,\u00a0as the freeze\/ thaw process\u00a0makes\u00a0the outer layer of the egg\u00a0tougher.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What tests you need to do?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182353245-31348cb1-6e17&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The following\u00a0tests are <strong>required<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"18\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Anti-Mullerian\u00a0Hormone (AMH)- (within 1 year of treatment)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"18\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A full hormone profile done between the 2nd\u00a0\u2013 3rd\u00a0day\u00a0of your period (within 1 year of treatment). That would include the following hormones:\u00a0<b>FSH, LH,\u00a0<\/b><b>Oestradiol<\/b><b>\u00a0(E2) and Prolactin<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"16\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FBC (within 2 months of treatment)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"16\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mammogram \u2013 if aged 40 years or above \u2013 In view of the increased prevalence of breast disease we would recommend screening prior to commencing a treatment (unless one has been performed within the last 3 years).\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Furthermore the following blood tests are\u00a0<b>mandatory<\/b>\u00a0for you and need to be done\u00a0<b>within 6 months<\/b>\u00a0of the treatment:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"17\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HIV\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"17\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"17\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hepatitis C (Anti-HCV)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"17\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Syphilis\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>BE AWARE THAT FURTHER TESTING MAY BE ADVISED BASED ON YOUR HISTORY<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How are eggs stored?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182404439-c5bc88c5-4a6a&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg is the largest human cell consisting\u00a0mainly of water. When it is cooled it forms crystals that can destroy it.\u00a0Technology\u00a0used in\u00a0egg\u00a0freezing\u00a0has improved greatly\u00a0over the past few years.\u00a0The\u00a0older\u00a0less effective\u00a0\u201cslow\u201d\u00a0freezing technique\u00a0has been replaced\u00a0by\u00a0vitrification, a new\u00a0ultra-\u00a0fast freezing\u00a0technique that\u00a0inhibits the\u00a0ice\u00a0crystal formation\u00a0within the cell\u00a0and therefore limits\u00a0the\u00a0damage\u00a0during the freeze\/thaw process. The\u00a0frozen\u00a0eggs are\u00a0subsequently\u00a0stored\u00a0in\u00a0liquid nitrogen\u00a0containers\u00a0(-196oC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Vitrification\u00a0has\u00a0made a real difference\u00a0in the egg freezing process and is associated with\u00a0exceptional\u00a0egg survival rates.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How long can the frozen eggs remain stored?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182433457-30127205-a515&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to\u00a0the\u00a0Greek\u00a0law\u00a0the\u00a0standard storage\u00a0duration for\u00a0eggs is\u00a0any period up to 10 years.\u00a0There\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0annual fee for storage of eggs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is also important to know that the\u00a0Greek law permits\u202ffertility treatment\u202f(all kinds) for women up to age 50<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Success rates&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182553295-45cc278e-eeb3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg freezing\u00a0remains\u00a0a relatively new\u00a0type of treatment. Even though\u00a0many thousands of\u00a0women\u00a0have\u00a0their eggs frozen,\u00a0the number of women coming back to thaw\u00a0and use\u00a0their eggs is still limited.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Increasing worldwide data is suggesting that frozen eggs may be as effective in achieving\u00a0a\u00a0pregnancy as fresh eggs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Clearly, at a younger age, the\u00a0quality and quantity\u00a0of the eggs\u00a0are\u00a0higher\u00a0therefore associated with higher success rates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Based on your\u00a0age, your hormone profile and your\u00a0medical history,\u00a0<strong>Dr\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Diamantopoulos<\/strong> will discuss and explain your projected success rate.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What are the risks of egg freezing?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182585756-da415adc-43e0&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some women do\u202fexperience side effects from the fertility drugs\u00a0they take during the stimulation, which\u00a0are usually mild.\u00a0The most common side effects\u00a0include\u00a0a local reaction\u00a0at the injection site,\u00a0dizziness, mood swings,\u00a0hot flushes\u00a0and\u00a0feeling bloated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In approximately 10% of cases\u00a0a smaller than expected number of\u00a0eggs\u00a0will be collected and in\u00a0about\u00a01% of cases\u00a0no eggs will be retrieved.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Frozen eggs may be stored for many years without deterioration\u00a0in their quality.\u00a0Increasing worldwide data\u00a0are\u00a0suggesting that frozen eggs may be as effective in achieving a pregnancy as fresh eggs.\u00a0With the\u00a0use of the\u00a0vitrification\u00a0fast-freezing technique approximately\u00a090% of eggs survive\u00a0the thawing process,\u00a0although this varies with age and older women have lower egg survival\u00a0rates. Subsequently the defrost eggs can achieve fertilization rates, in the range of 70%-80%, which are similar\u00a0to the fertilization rates seen with\u00a0fresh eggs.\u00a0However, very\u00a0rarely\u00a0the\u00a0eggs\u00a0do not\u00a0survive the\u00a0thawing process or none is fertilised.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg freezing is a not a guarantee for children in the future.\u00a0A\u00a0non-intended social consequence\u00a0is the false sense of security that may lead\u00a0some women\u00a0to a detrimental delay in trying naturally for a baby.\u00a0In case that\u00a0treatment with the\u00a0frozen eggs\u00a0is unsuccessful, women\u00a0may\u00a0face\u00a0the prospect of trying for a baby at a\u00a0much older age when the chances of a successful outcome would be significantly reduced.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Is egg freezing safe? Is it associated with breast Cancer?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182633270-0fe1a8e9-1b4e&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Many women\u00a0are concerned whether\u00a0the\u00a0hormones administered\u00a0during the stimulation process of the ovaries\u00a0can cause malignancies and, specifically, breast cancer.\u00a0This is a myth, which has not been proven to be true.\u00a0According to large epidemiological studies,\u00a0conducted worldwide,\u00a0including\u00a0hundreds of thousands of women\u00a0there\u00a0is\u00a0no difference in the\u00a0incidence\u00a0of breast cancer between women who took and those who didn&#8217;t receive\u00a0hormones\u00a0during\u00a0fertility treatments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nevertheless, hormones should be\u00a0used cautiously and women should receive the \u201cright\u201d amount rather than take excessive dosages of the\u00a0hormonal drugs.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Does egg freezing treatment reduce the number of the remaining eggs?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591182672604-c8d8dd26-8650&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">A common misconception\u00a0is that <strong>egg freezing<\/strong>\u00a0or IVF\u00a0treatment\u00a0may\u00a0reduce\u00a0the number of the remaining eggs\u00a0in women.\u00a0That is not\u00a0true.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In\u00a0a natural\u00a0menstrual\u00a0cycle, a number of follicles\u00a0containing\u00a0eggs\u00a0are\u00a0recruited from\u00a0the\u00a0stores\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0ovaries,\u00a0in response to\u00a0the\u00a0natural Follicle Stimulating Hormone\u00a0(FSH)\u00a0and\u00a0initially\u00a0all\u00a0begin to grow.\u00a0However only one follicle\u00a0becomes the dominant follicle,\u00a0continues to grow\u00a0and is the one\u00a0that\u00a0ovulates\u00a0and releases\u00a0the egg within\u00a0it, while the rest\u00a0of the follicles\u00a0regress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In a\u00a0stimulated\u00a0IVF or egg freezing\u00a0cycle\u00a0the administration of hormonal (FSH\u00a0containing)\u00a0injections\u00a0makes the above\u00a0process more\u00a0efficient\u00a0by stimulating\u00a0simultaneously\u00a0multiple\u00a0follicles\u00a0to\u00a0continue\u00a0growing,\u00a0thus\u00a0allowing\u00a0the\u00a0collection of\u00a0as many eggs as possible.
