These eggs are fertilized with the recipient\u2019s husband\/ partner sperm and one or two of the resulting embryos are transferred into the recipient\u2019s womb.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The decision to proceed with an egg donation treatment often comes after a long fertility journey that may include multiple failed IVF attempts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Use of donor eggs\u00a0has\u00a0become widely accepted for many women\/ couples given the high success rates associated with this type of treatment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At Fertility Advanced,\u00a0over\u00a070% of couples will be successful and have a baby from a single donation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Various studies have shown that egg donation does not affect the relationship between mother, father and child, despite the absence of a genetic link between the mother and the child.\u00a0However\u00a0we\u00a0appreciate\u00a0the tremendous emotional strain that infertility places on most couples and\u00a0we recognize that considering egg donation treatment could induce moral dilemmas and additional stress. Therefore\u00a0we strongly recommend to\u00a0women considering\u00a0using donor eggs,\u00a0to receive specialized and extensive\u00a0counselling, in order to\u00a0discuss the implications of donor conception\u00a0and\u00a0decide whether or not donor\u00a0treatment\u00a0is actually right for them.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion active_section=&#8221;0&#8243; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Who needs donor eggs?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180181378-ff75da65-4184&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Egg donation<\/strong> is a particularly efficient treatment option for several categories of women.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is\u00a0helpful for\u00a0women who have been diagnosed with premature ovarian insufficiency (early menopause),\u00a0women who have\u00a0no ovaries or had them removed, women\u00a0who had multiple failed attempts\u00a0IVF\u00a0attempts,\u00a0producing too few or poor quality eggs\u00a0or\u00a0those\u00a0with a genetic disorder which could be passed on\u00a0to their child.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Egg donation in Greece&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180181405-d2502374-f411&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg donation\u00a0in Greece is legal provided that is\u00a0<b>anonymous<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>altruistic<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Disclosure of any identifiable characteristics of the donor to you or\u00a0to\u00a0your future child\u00a0is not allowed.\u202fAll information we can give you is non-identifying. You\u00a0are not allowed to see photos or in any way come in contact with\u00a0your donor. Vice versa the same applies for the donor who cannot get any identifying information about you.\u00a0Any payment to donor is strictly forbidden\u00a0and\u00a0the donor is\u00a0only compensated for\u00a0any lost income due to time off work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to Greek law, egg donors should be between\u00a0<b>18 and 35 years old<\/b>, and are selected following strict medical screening.\u00a0A 10-family limit\u00a0applies to all\u00a0donors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As with all fertility treatments\u00a0in Greece the\u00a0age\u00a0limit for\u00a0the recipient\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0age of\u00a050.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Gender selection<\/b>\u00a0for social reasons is forbidden.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Regarding the number of embryos that can be transferred in an egg donor treatment,\u00a0a\u00a0<b>maximum number of\u00a0<\/b><b>two embryos<\/b>\u00a0are\u00a0allowed\u00a0each\u00a0time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Embryos created\u00a0with both donor eggs and the\u00a0recipient\u2019s own eggs\u00a0cannot be transferred at the same time. A recipient\u00a0may only have fertilized eggs from one donor transferred\u00a0at the same time.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How do you find me a suitable donor?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180341897-27b69d80-3395&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #333333;\">Based on your\u00a0physical\u00a0characteristics\u00a0and wishes\u00a0we will\u00a0select from the pool of donors, a smaller group, which usually consists of 2-3 different,\u00a0matched donors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">We\u00a0will\u00a0give you\u00a0a full description\u00a0of each\u00a0donor\u2019s physical details\u00a0i.e.\u00a0age, height, ethnicity, skin tone, hair and eye colour,\u00a0as well as information\u00a0regarding\u00a0educational background,\u00a0work,\u00a0hobbies\u00a0and family.\u00a0The choice of the most suitable donor is made after discussing with you and\u00a0the ultimate decision is yours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">There is a large pool and\u00a0of carefully selected egg donors\u00a0therefore\u00a0in most cases there is\u00a0<b>no<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>waiting list<\/b>. However, occasionally\u00a0depending on personal\u00a0or\u00a0ethnicity requirements for the donor\u00a0it could be some waiting time, particularly for non-caucasian\u00a0donors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">We try to ensure that all\u00a0our\u00a0recipient couples receive\u00a0<b>about\u00a0<\/b><b>8<\/b><b>&#8211; 12<\/b><b>\u00a0eggs<\/b>\u00a0from their donor.\u00a0Our\u00a0aim\u00a0is\u00a0to have\u00a0at\u00a0least 2 good quality embryos at blastocyst stage and\u00a0this almost always is achieved.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How much information do I receive about my donor?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180349711-785ea3ea-10db&#8221;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The egg donation in Greece is strictly anonymous and the law does not allow disclosure of any identifiable characteristics of the donor neither to you or your future child.\u202fAll information we can give you is non-identifying. A 10-family limit applies to all donors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our particular preference is to give priority to donors less than 30 years old with a previous proven fertility record.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In compliance with\u00a0the Code of Practice of the Greek National Authority of Assisted Reproduction and the\u00a0HFEA guidelines\u00a0the donors are screened thoroughly via a detailed medical, obstetric,\u00a0gynaecological\u00a0and family history. Subsequently they undergo a thorough psychological and\u00a0cardiological\u00a0assessment.\u00a0Women with any serious medical conditions, whose children have any serious medical conditions or whose close family have any serious medical conditions would all be excluded from being donors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The following tests are performed on all donors:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Blood group and Rhesus status\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Haemoglobin\u00a0electrophoresis,\u00a0to exclude carriers of\u00a0thalasaemia\u00a0or sickle cell disease\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FBC\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HIV\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hepatitis C (Anti-HCV)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Syphilis\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Screening for Cystic Fibrosis\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Peripheral Blood Karyotype (test to assess the number and structure of the chromosomes)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Screening for fragile X syndrome, which is\u00a0associated with severe learning difficulties.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Screening for spine muscular atrophy\u00a0(SMA),\u00a0a genetic disorder characterized by weakness and wasting in muscles used for movement.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"8\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Screening for sexually transmitted diseases\u00a0such as chlamydia\u00a0and\u00a0gonorrhoea\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;The treatment process&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180477447-39d725f6-0973&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Treatment for\u00a0both you\u00a0and the donor may run simultaneously. The donor\u00a0receives\u00a0fertility drugs\u00a0to stimulate\u00a0her\u00a0ovaries\u00a0to produce eggs as in a normal IVF cycle.\u00a0Donor\u2019s\u00a0treatment\u00a0lasts on average 10-14 days\u00a0before we are able to retrieve her eggs through egg collection. We will be able to confirm the exact date of egg collection\u00a02 days in advance.\u00a0The\u00a0retrieved\u00a0eggs are subsequently inseminated with\u00a0your husband\u2019s\/\u00a0partner\u2019s\u00a0sperm\u00a0and the resulting\u00a0embryos are transferred directly to you.\u00a0We can only transfer one or two embryos each time and safely freeze any remaining embryos for future use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In parallel with the donor you receive hormonal treatment either in the form of tablets or in the form of patches to prepare your uterus for the transfer of the embryo(s) and hopefully the resulting pregnancy.\u00a0During the period of your preparation you would need to have a couple of ultrasound scans, a week apart one to each other,\u00a0to assess\u00a0the thickness of the lining of your womb. You can have those scans locally\u00a0and email\/ fax the results to us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">An alternative option,\u00a0is to obtain eggs from the donor, inseminate them with the\u00a0your husband\u2019s\/\u00a0partner\u2019s\u00a0sperm\u00a0and freeze any resulting embryos. In that case your preparation and embryo\u00a0transfer\u00a0can take place\u00a0at a later date. A lot of\u00a0couples,\u00a0particularly those travelling from abroad\u00a0prefer\u00a0this approach\u00a0as it allows for safer\u00a0and more accurate planning in terms of book their flights, arrange for accommodation and take time off work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In either approach, the\u00a0steps\u00a0of\u00a0fertilisation and embryo culture, the subsequent\u00a0embryo-transfer and the after care,\u00a0are the same as in\u00a0<b>IVF<\/b>.\u00a0Regarding the number of embryos that can be transferred in an egg donor treatment, a\u00a0<b>maximum number of two embryos<\/b>\u00a0are allowed each time.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How many times do I have to visit Greece and how long do I have to stay?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591180505391-394e0b36-49a7&#8243;][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Regarding the\u00a0number of\u00a0times you need to visit Greece,\u202fyou have\u00a0two options.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your first\u00a0option\u00a0is to attend\u00a0only once for\u00a0your\u00a0treatment, in which case you need to stay in Greece for approximately 7-10 days.\u00a0You should\u00a0arrive in Greece\u00a0the\u00a0day before\u00a0the\u00a0donor\u2019s\u00a0egg collection\u202fat the latest.\u202fThis is because your partner\/ husband would need to\u00a0provide\u00a0his sperm on the day of the donor\u2019s egg collection, which is going to be used for the fertilization of the eggs.
